Develop Digital Marketing Skills
I plan to strengthen my digital marketing skills, including social media advertising, content creation, and influencer collaboration, to market the fashion products effectively. I will achieve this by completing certifications in digital marketing and by participating in seminars related to this subject.
Leadership skills
I will take on responsibilities to work closely with cross-functional teams, where I need to motivate members, allocate tasks effectively, build collaboration across production, sales and other departments, and focus on shared goals. I aim to develop my leadership skills by collecting input from peers and mentors.
Financial planning knowledge for fashion
I need to improve budget management and profitable pricing strategies in the apparel sector. This includes cash flow forecasting, inventory cost management, and seasonal budget planning. I plan to familiarise myself with financial software and industry-specific costing tools to improve efficiency. Balancing creative decisions with commercial sustainability will allow me to protect brand value while maintaining profitability.
Build New Zealand-specific industry knowledge
I will learn local retail trends, consumer preferences, and business regulations in New Zealand. Additionally, I hope to improve my knowledge of Maori cultural values in business through academic platforms and community meetups.
Secure a Merchandising Management role
Within the next 2-3 years, I plan to secure my position as a Merchandising Manager in a renowned fashion brand. Academic and proven industry experience will make me a perfect fit for the position. I will engage in continuous learning and professional development through industry events, workshops and exhibitions to stay connected in the fashion industry.
Expand professional connections
I will actively present on LinkedIn, and make connections with industry professionals to exchange insights and opportunities. Trade shows, seminars, industry-specific networking events, and fashion expos will further help to expand professional connections.
Gain hands-on experience in sustainable fashion
I plan to gain practical knowledge of sustainability standards and how to apply them in the fashion operations. This can be achieved by working on freelance projects under professional designers such as Kiri Nathan, who focuses mainly on eco-friendly concepts, ethical supply chain, and circular design practices. I believe gaining knowledge will help me convert sustainable principles into commercially marketable fashion collections to target environmentally conscious customers.
Launch my own fashion label as a side business
Over the next three years, I plan to lay the foundation for launching my own fashion brand. This process will start with a comprehensive market research to identify the target customer segment, competitors, and suppliers. I will create a unique brand identity which reflects sustainability, quality, and timeless style. To introduce to the market, I will follow a digital-market strategy and explore opportunities for pop-up stores and local fashion markets to directly connect with customers. My ultimate goal is to transform the small-scale business into a recognised fashion label with a loyal customer base.
